چکیده

1. The thymus gland of young rats autotransplants easily when inserted in the muscles of the abdominal wall. 2. Destructive changes take place during the first 48 hours, when regenerative changes set in. 3. The regeneration is usually complete by the 14th day, when the new formed thymic lobules show differentiation into cortical and medullary zones. 4. The small thymic cells arise from the reticular epithelium in the regeneration of the transplant.

Studies on Organ Transplantation

Seven autoplastic transplantations and one homoplastic transplantation of the spleen of dogs were made. One autotransplantation was successful, the gland being normal at the end of 88 days.

Tracing of cells of the avian thymus through embryonic life in interspecific chimeras

Differences in the structure of the interphase nucleus between two species of birds, the Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) and the chick (Gallus gallus) has been used to distinguish cells from different origins in interspecies combinations. This biological cell marking technique was applied to thymus histogenesis. Using various combinations between components of quail and chick thymic...

Autoplastic Thymus Transplants

1. Regeneration of a thymus transplant is characterized by hypertrophy and hyperplasia of the reticulum cells, leading to the formation of small and large atypical Hassall bodies during the early stages. 2. Regeneration is usually complete by the 3rd week, when the newly formed lobules show differentiation into cortical and medullary zones, and typical Hassall bodies appear. 3. Typical Hassall'...

A study of the influence of isolated calf spleen RNA on amphibian histogenesis.

In the cell-free inductor demonstrated by Niu & Twitty (1953) the effective material was later characterized by Niu (1956) as ribonucleoprotein with the suggestion that the ribonucleic acid (RNA) fraction was the active component. Subsequently Niu (1958a, b) reported tissue-specific (thymus-like) induction in amphibian material exposed to calf thymus RNA, though Yamada (1961), using identical p...

STIGMA OF DATURA STRAMONIUM L. (SOLANACEAE): HISTOGENESIS, MORPHOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENTAL ANATOMY

The structure and histogenesis of the stigma of Datura stramonium was investigated by light and scanning electron microscopy to determine the developmental origin of the transmitting tissue and “wet stigma”. Four developmental stages were defined on the basis of bud length. Stage one, the histogenesis stage, was comprised of buds 2-15 mm in length. Stage two, signified by the growth and develop...
